Honest framing. The confirmed rules of Afterlife drafting: a starting loadout chosen on entry, new skills drafted after successful encounters, cross-profession picks, and multi-profession elites in one bar. The skill pool and all numbers are unpublished — so this page builds a planning framework, not a fake tier list. It becomes a real builds compendium after January 13, 2027.
The Rules Your Build Must Obey
Every drafting build in the Unformed works inside these confirmed constraints:
- Your bar starts from a drafted starting loadout, not your permanent skill bar
- Growth is mid-run: successful encounters yield draft picks
- Any profession’s skills are draftable
- Multiple professions’ elite skills may coexist — no single-elite limit is announced
Build Archetypes the Rules Enable
Four planning archetypes follow directly from those rules — labels for thinking, not confirmed in-game categories:
Adaptive generalist
Draft for coverage first, committing to synergy only after the run’s enemy mix reveals itself.
Elite-stacking specialist
Exploit multi-elite legality: build around two or more professions’ elite skills synergizing.
Encounter-counter drafter
Treat each successful encounter as information; pick skills that answer the next unknown threat.
Party-role specialist
In co-op, draft to a role — the Co-op Guide covers party structure.
Planning Against the Announced Enemies
Three factions are confirmed inside the Unformed — Nightmares, Ancient Golems and the Cult of Odran (Bosses Guide). Without published stats, build planning means preparing categories of answers (sustained damage, control, recovery) rather than named counters — the Nightmares tracks what is known per faction.
Drafting Versus Permanent Rewards
Remember the two-tier reward system from the Rewards Guide: run rewards shape later runs. A drafting plan that compounds — early picks that make later drafts stronger — is the likely optimization surface; whether such synergies exist is to be verified.
Until Launch: What We Will Add
Concrete content arriving after release: real draft-pool evaluations, per-encounter pick orders, elite-synergy combinations that actually work, and party draft boards. Until then, distrust any “best Afterlife build” list — the game is not out.
Drafting Builds FAQ
Are there best builds for Guild Wars Afterlife yet?
No — the game is unreleased and the skill pool is unpublished. What exists now are the confirmed drafting rules and planning frameworks like the ones on this page.
Can one build use two professions' elite skills?
Yes, that is explicitly confirmed: elite skills from different professions can coexist in a single drafted build.
How often can I draft new skills?
After successful encounters — the exact frequency and pool size are unpublished.
Do drafted skills persist between runs?
Unknown. Drafting is confirmed for inside the Unformed; persistence rules will be verified at launch.
